We have all been feeling a little under the weather here.. Maybe it is the weather going crazy day by day or maybe colds. Who knows. Starting to feel a little more human now and taking care of business.
We joined Costco today. Again. We had a membership when we lived in Vegas but never went. We went twice in a year. Who does that? We went today with the intent on getting 3 things: chicken, fruit and slimfast shakes. How did we walk out $186 later? I think that is inevitable when you shop at big warehouse places. Everything looks like such a bargain.
Really though, you cannot get better fruit. This time and the couple times we went before, that is worth the membership in and of itself! The grapes are so firm and big, the strawberries so dang juicy and sweet. Just delicious!
Other than that, we have been taking it pretty easy. Watching baseball, napping, going to bed early. The life of leisure :)
Hope that you guys had a nice weekend too.
Catch ya on the flip side.

It will change your life
I came across this post on Facebook a couple days ago...I read it and I cried. It is so true. No one could ever tell you what your life will be like after you hold that sweet baby you have been dying to meet for 40 weeks. No one can prepare you, and you can never prepare yourself. Life changes. Your thoughts change. Your actions and voice changes. Your heart changes.
Enjoy:
Enjoy:
"We are sitting at lunch one day when my daughter casually mentions that she and her husband are thinking of "starting a family." "We're taking a survey," she says half-joking. "Do you think I should have a baby?"
"It will change your life," I say, carefully keeping my tone neutral.
"I know," she says, "no more sleeping in on weekends, no more spontaneous vacations."
But that is not what I mean...t at all. I look at my daughter, trying to decide what to tell her. I want her to know what she will never learn in childbirth classes.
I want to tell her that the physical wounds of child bearing will heal, but becoming a mother will leave her with an emotional wound so raw that she will forever be vulnerable.
I consider warning her that she will never again read a newspaper without asking, "What if that had been MY child?" That every plane crash, every house fire will haunt her.
That when she sees pictures of starving children, she will wonder if anything could be worse than watching your child die.
I look at her carefully manicured nails and stylish suit and think that no matter how sophisticated she is, becoming a mother will reduce her to the primitive level of a bear protecting her cub. That an urgent call of "Mom!" will cause her to drop a soufflé or her best crystal without a moments hesitation.
I feel that I should warn her that no matter how many years she has invested in her career, she will be professionally derailed by motherhood. She might arrange for childcare, but one day she will be going into an important business meeting and she will think of her
baby's sweet smell. She will have to use every ounce of discipline to keep from running home, just to make sure her baby is all right.
I want my daughter to know that every day decisions will no longer be routine. That a five year old boy's desire to go to the men's room rather than the women's at McDonald's will become a major dilemma. That right there, in the midst of clattering trays and screaming
children, issues of independence and gender identity will be weighed against the prospect that a child molester may be lurking in that restroom.
However decisive she may be at the office, she will second-guess herself constantly as a mother.
Looking at my attractive daughter, I want to assure her that eventually she will shed the pounds of pregnancy, but she will never feel the same about herself.
That her life, now so important, will be of less value to her once she has a child. That she would give herself up in a moment to save her offspring, but will also begin to hope for more years, not to accomplish her own dreams, but to watch her child accomplish theirs.
I want her to know that a cesarean scar or shiny stretch marks will become badges of honor.
My daughter's relationship with her husband will change, but not in the way she thinks.
I wish she could understand how much more you can love a man who is careful to powder the baby or who never hesitates to play with his child.
I think she should know that she will fall in love with him again for reasons she would now find very unromantic.
I wish my daughter could sense the bond she will feel with women throughout history who have tried to stop war, prejudice and drunk driving.
I want to describe to my daughter the exhilaration of seeing your child learn to ride a bike.
I want to capture for her the belly laugh of a baby who is touching the soft fur of a dog or cat for the first time.
I want her to taste the joy that is so real it actually hurts.
My daughter's quizzical look makes me realize that tears have formed in my eyes. "You'll never regret it," I finally say. Then I reached across the table, squeezed my daughter's hand and offered a silent prayer for her, and for me, and for all the mere mortal women who stumble their way into this most wonderful of callings.
Please share this with a Mom that you know or all of your girlfriends who may someday be Moms. May you always have in your arms the one who is in your heart."

Oddities
You ever do or eat or say something that feels normal to you but when you think about it, you know that it is certainly odd?
I do that a lot.
Here are *some* of my oddities:
*I will not dangle my hands or feet over the side of the bed. Maybe it goes back to the whole monster under the bed thing. Just wont do it.
*I must look in every stall of a public bathroom before I will proceed with my business. If the door is locked, I glance at the feet just to see that it is hopefully a woman.
*I ask my husband, or whomever I am out with, to stand outside the bathroom entrance and listen for me just in case. Call me crazy. I have had a personal story of a friend and have seen too many episodes of Criminal Minds.
*I must throw out the last few squares of tp before I will use it. Think about it. Someone else's nasty hands touched that when they ripped off their squares of tp.
*I see that I have a lot of public bathroom issues.
*Appliances must not be left on when I am asleep or leaving the house. I have waited for my dryer to finish.
*I can only read one book at a time.
*I like apple cider vinegar in my chili.
*I might have put peanut butter on a hot dog bun, added a hot dog, chili and vinegar and eaten it. Happily.
*I have eaten and enjoyed peanut butter and miracle whip sammiches. Don't knock it till you have tried it.
*I like saltine crackers with peanut butter smooshed in my vegetable soup.
*Apparently I have peanut butter issues.
*I use way too much toilet paper according to the Charmin commercials.
*I am a very messy teeth brusher. My husband can walk around and brush his teeth. Not me.
*Those girls washing their faces in the commercials like that and not getting soaked t-shirts are LIARS!
*I like white milk. Said white milk needs ice.
*I look in my backseat before entering my car, even in the garage.
OK, that is enough for one sitting :)

MOM, 80's and melting.
We have been in Phoenix for 1 year and 4ish months and this week we heard about MOM for the first time. MOM is Market On the Move. It is this program that moves around to various churches each Saturday of the month. You go, pay $10, and they load you up with what ever produce they have for that week. They gave us 2 HUGE boxes loaded with peppers, cucumbers, squash, zucchini and tomatoes. Ya'll it was ridiculous--about 60 pounds! I am going on a pining and recipe dig to make all sorts of yummy things. I know for certain that some homemade salsa and spaghetti sauce will be in there, along with baked squash and zucchini chips.
Although I despise the hotness of summers here, or anywhere in general, I do love that I enjoy crisp, juicy fruits and vegetables. My body just craves the freshness.
The mamas from the mom group that I am in had an 80s night last night. After all was said and done, we decided it really was more like a 90s party because we were all still fairly young in the 80s and we GREW up more in the 90s. See, we are not in fact THAT old. HA. Here is a little preview. Everyone said I looked like a diner worker.
Our little boy is just growing so fast. He is 16 months old. I can hard believe it! I soon will have a 2 year old running around! He is just the funniest, sweetest thing. He laughs so much, sticks his tongue out, climbs everywhere and is just a joy. He makes my heart just melt.
Hope ya'll have a great Saturday!

My mom and brother came for a visit. I always enjoy when they come but boy they wear us all out. We are constantly on the go. We liked to show them around so much and go to so many events that I think we all sleep for a week after they leave!

Frustrated with ... me.
There is a lot on my mind and heart lately. I want to change myself and how I look, but yet I still find myself heading towards the chocolate or the chips or the whatever. I also find myself not doing a damn thing to change. So do I really want to? YES. I guess I have given up on me. That should never be the case. I have got into a pattern of being "just a mom". I dont need to be cute and look cute and dress cute to go to the park or run after my giggling baby. But I do need those things to feel like I am also a woman and a wife.
I long to wear the cute clothes that I pin on Pinterest. On that note, I long to have the closet that I pin too... Sidetracked easily.
I have good intentions. It is putting them into motion that is actually the hard part. I wake up and think about starting the day off with a walk around the block. My son would love that. Then coming home and making a super yummy healthy smoothie and getting ready for the day. Then what happens? I wake up, I get our son, I sit on the couch or floor, look on fb, twitter and pinterest and there goes the start of my good intentions. I make bfast. I debate whether I should make something healthy, drag out the juicer or the blender or just pop some toast in the toaster. I try to make sure my kid eats healthy. I try to balance his diet and he is happy. I rarely let him have more than water or milk. He doesnt have bad foods often. And usually he is happy after a bite or two and moves on.
Lessons learned from a 16 month old?
I pin healthy workouts. I have never done them. I pin healthy shakes. I did drink spinach smoothies for a few days. They were good. Then I got bored with the same taste. I pinned more smoothie recipes, did I try them? No.
I did give up soda. That was a huge battle for me. I have been soda free for over a month now. I still crave it sometimes but for the most part, I am fine without it. Now my husband has been giving up soda too, so that makes it easier on me.
We have every intention of doing Dr. Oz's 3 day detox seen here and then doing another little clense program I saw. We are heading to a moving farmer's market this weekend to stock up.
Wish me luck.

Glade Expressions Line

Glade and Bzzagent asked me to review the new Glade line of the Glade Expressions fragrance mist and oil diffuser.
Here’s a rundown of the fragrances you’re about to invite into your home, courtesy of Glade Expressions®:
Pineapple & Mangosteen – Evoke a tropical paradise with the blend of freshly cut pineapples and hints of tangy mangosteen, creamy coconut and passionflower
Cotton & Italian Mandarin – Open your home with this bright, breezy blend of cotton and sparkling citrus, honeydew and sandalwood*
Lavender & Juniper Berry – Lush lavender blends with fresh juniper berry, eucalyptus and rose to relax the senses and open your home (only available at select retailers)
Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice – A ripe, spicy blend of sweet pears and crisp apple with a dash of cinnamon and clove that warms and invigorates
For my home I chose the Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice. I love the fragrance of the apples and spice. It makes my home smell super inviting and warm. It reminds me of orchards we visited growing up. My home is my sanctuary. That is pretty normal. You want to walk into your home and have it smelling fresh, clean and pretty. You need to be able to have products you depend on. Having them blend with your existing decor is important too. You don't want to see cans of air freshener plopped all over nor do you want to see plug-ins in every outlet. That is why I love the new line. The sleek canister's wrapping can be removed to reveal a smooth bottle that fits in with the simplest to most stylish decor. The oil diffuser is pretty and has a nice floral design that is chic meets easy. Hello Lover.
The products are both super easy to use. At first the scent was super strong and really filled the house. As a week as gone by, the scent has faded a lot. I have moved the oil diffuser to a couple different rooms trying out the concept. I have it in the bedroom now and keep the door shut most of the day to shield all of our dogs and baby from sneaking in and causing trouble. With that being said, in a closed bedroom, I would love to have the scent filled room that I had the first couple of days. I loved the wooden look that the mangosteen scent had, and wish that I was able to choose the holder that I wanted with my fragrance, but that is pretty trivial.
Despite that, I do love the scent. I can still smell it and it looks pretty. The mist spray comes out very easily and fills the room with that warm apple that I love.
Go getcha some :) I got mine at Target, but you can get them at Walmart, drug and grocery stores. Let me know what you think!

*I did receive full size products in exchange for this review.
Tiny brain dump
*My son is growing too fast. He is learning something new everyday. He is literally growing up before my very eyes. That saying is not truer than to a mama. He is 14 months old already. Soon he will be 14. *tear*
*I am having Wheat Thins and coffee for breakfast. I know... but it works.
*I made a meal plan for an entire 2 weeks and I really have liked it. I usually only do a week at most. This really seems to make my dinner routine so much less stressful. I just look on the sheet and BAM. Dinner is done. Well, almost.
*I am sick of drama with women. I am not a drama person. I find it petty, childish and frankly, beneath me. Can I say that? I just don't deal with it. I ignore it or remove myself from it. I have a mom in the group I am in who strives off of drama. All she wants to is cause issues. Then when she is done with the issue, she is fine but the damage she does is left strewn behind.
*I need to be as healthy as my Pinterest board looks. I have really slacked off this winter. As much as I despise the hot summers, I think that it actually helps motivate me for weight loss and exercise.
*I am loving bzzagent. I love that I #gotitfree.
*I am lost with why the process for uploading pics has changed and I need to install some new app. Why cant people leave well enough alone? UGH.
*We joined care.com and have had 2 interviews so far. One flake--which we are totally bummed about bc she seemed so great and a slew of new emails to check people out. It is SO NERVE WRACKING. We have NEVER left our son so this is beyond scary. It is necessary though. Baby boy doesnt go to anyone. Even moms in the group that he sees every week. He is very clingy to my husband and me. Well, it is to be expected I suppose since I stay home with him and my husband works from home. He really needs to be socialized without us. So--- we are going to go on dates again and hopefully everything will be ok without us for a couple hours.
Perhaps I will have more time to brain dump again soon. This mommy business takes alot of time ;)

Suave Professionals(R) Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil.
I have a friend who is constantly getting free products to try out and be the test subject. She does (happily) and then posts her findings and reviews on twitter, product pages, and so forth. She seems to really like it.. SO, I asked what was going on with all this #gotitfree business and she linked me up to BZZAGENT. I am loving it so far and hope that I am eligible for lots of product reviews.
So far I have had 1 campaign. The little box arrived with its buzzing bee tape and I squealed!
I got the chance to review the new Suave Professionals(R) Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil.
They sent a full size bottle of the oil and I was able to try it out, and then review it on Walmart.com and Soap.com. Easy enough and I got to try out something that I may not have bought before. I have tried the Moroccan oils before, a super expensive one and a cheaper one, and this Suave was up to par. The smell was a bit strong at first, but then I decided that I liked it after all. It made my hair very soft and even feel healthy-- you know-- that just from the salon feel? Like that.
Try it out. See what you think.
I would upload pictures-- but there seems to be no option to upload from the computer? What is going on there?

Another year has come and gone (almost)
I have met some amazing women. I have made some friends. I am still missing old friends and my Vegas.
We are having a NYE celebration tonight. Just a few friends and their families. Appetizers, wine, and champagne punch.
I have a good easy peasy punch recipe. Ready?
1-2 bottles of Champagne. Get the cheap stuff, no one will know. 1 bottle of ginger ale. 1-2 bags of semi frozen strawberries. Yum. Fast. Inexpensive for a crowd and people gobble it up.
I was planning to wear a fun sparkly cocktail dress that hasn't seen NYE in about 5 years... but then my husband said that I would be silly to do so. A friend said that might be silly. So, I will be in a sparkly top instead with some jeans or pants. Gotta add sparkle. It is NYE after all... even if I am cozy in my house.
I have seen some debate on Pinterest. Does it cause stress to regular moms to become Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart and Heidi Klum. No, IMO. I think it is great for ideas, inspiration, pairings. I like to keep tips, recipes, and the like together. I think that it is genius. What do you guys think? Do you get overwhelmed? Does it make you feel like you are less than a woman because you might not make your own play dough, cookie dough and dresses?

Football and Recipes
It has been so hard to not constantly have my tiny man in my arms. I have been really good at not lifting him much. I sometimes just cant take it and swoop him up--carefully of course.
I can hold him, just not lift him, so that makes my heart a little better. The upside is that the husband is doing most of the diaper changes these days :) Silver linings.
I have my 2 week check up at the Dr. tomorrow. I am doing pretty good. the disaster that is now my stomach is healing. It is still fairly swollen though.
I have been reading a lot. Finally read several Emily Giffin books-- she wrote "Something Borrowed" that was turned big screen. Cute books. I have a couple more to read. I have been utilizing the library. I must say, I do prefer my kindle though. It would be ridiculous to buy all of these short reads IMO. Do you guys have a kindle? Do you do the borrowing thing? I need to learn about it. Tell me if you know...
Football season is here and I love that! ASU and the CARDINALS. Now-- if they aren't playing each other, I will also root for Mizzou and The Chiefs. However, when push comes to shove, let's go Arizona!
I tried out a new spinach dip today.
8oz softened cream cheese
maybe 1/4-1/3 cup each of sour cream and mayo
garlic salt to taste
chili powder--beef it up since there is so much to balance it.
can of drained artichoke hearts
a cup or so of frozen spinach
mozzarella
Mix. Broil till cheese is bubbly and browned. Serve. It was pretty tasty.
I haven't cooked too much lately, but did whip up these things:
Baked Rigatoni with Spinach adapted from this skinnytaste recipe.
Olive Garden's Pasta Fagioli soup adapted from a pinterest recipe I found. I only had one can of kidney beans. I didn't have any tomatoes on hand and it still was pretty good. Next time I will fully cook the pasta before adding it to the soup since it sucked most of the juices when I cooked the pasta in the actual soup. Other than that, this soup will be on a rotation for me. Was really good.
My next new thing to try is hummus. I couldn't find any of the tahini that many of the recipes call for, so I will try it with out using that little guy. Some people say that you can use PB but that it is then not real hummus. Other's say that you don't need it at all. Who knows. What I do know is that my baby loves hummus. Hummus is pricey and Maddox would eat his weight in it if we let him. Beans, olive oil and garlic are cheap. Mama will try this way.
Am thinking about what to do for Halloween. Trick or Treating kind of scares me. I watch too much television. I know there are some good places. I will ask around at the mama group. Which brings me to his costume.... Good Lord. What a task. Your child's (first) Halloween costume! Plus I kind of am toying with the idea of a family theme... Geeky? Maaaaybe.
Gotta go. The Cards are playing.
